1. China Business Leader Awards 2006:
A Celebration of Achievement
The China Business Leader Awards 2006 (CBLA) recognizes excellence in business leadership. Recipients of the Awards are visionary leaders behind today’s outstanding businesses. They are inspiring individuals who epitomize strength, ingenuity, knowledge, vision and represent the “best of the bestin China.

Winners of CBLA will compete as finalists at the Asia Business Leader Awards 2005, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 9th, 2005.

Founded by CNBC in 2001, ABLA is a world-class event that recognizes and celebrates the spirit of achievement and excellence in business leadership in Asia.

Our Logo
The logo design of the Awards draws its inspiration from the way sound business decisions originate from good ideas. From the broad top to the strong tip, it shows how general fundamentals are distilled into one decisive point. It draws inspiration from the calligrapher whose brush strokes are honed to perfection, bold yet mindful and executed with momentum and precision.

The business leader’s experience, acumen and insights help set directions. These are then developed and refined into strong, well-planned strategies, which are officially signed, sealed and delivered with a swift stroke of the pen.

Under a stringent, objective and transparent criteria, business leaders are judged by an independent panel of world-respected management strategists, academics and corporate personalities. Heading the judging panel are two academics from knowledge partner University of Chicago Graduate School of Business: Professor Mark E. Zmijewski, Dean of Executive MBA Programs, and Professor William W. Kooser, Associate Dean for Part-Time MBA Programs.

Together with research partner Development Dimensions International (DDI), the distinguished panel goes through a unique three-phase judging process based on a combination of criteria including financial performance, leadership, creativity, innovation and social responsibility. Candidates are evaluated with a focus on their ability to create short-term advantage, long-term value, competitive edge, and the demonstration of leadership in the business community.

In the first phase, the University of Chicago GSB team shortlisted about 10-15 companies based on four performance measures: Sales Growth, Operating Margin, Earnings before Interest (EBIT) Per Employee and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE).

The second phase of the judging process entails a face-to-face interview with CEOs of the short-listed companies in order to evaluate the leadership performance of all semi-finalists based on a set of key parameters.

In the third and final phase, under lead judge, Professor Mark Zmijewski of the GSB, the independent panel of judges will select 3 business leaders for China Business Leader of the Year, Corporate Citizen of the Year and Innovator of the Year respectively.
